Project reference 22163

Dozer To Landscape Contractor — Carry Versus Drag

Identify the complete machine sequence, tractor interfaces and reference technology. A machine mentioned in a scenario is not a confirmed compatible attachment or a verified available configuration.

This reference assembles relevant extracts from the guide library. It is general project planning, not a local project report, verified specification or translated technical publication.

Carry vs Drag

Dragging redistributes material along the path of the implement; carrying separates the collection point from the placement point. Dragging can suit local smoothing. Contained carrying becomes useful when a measured surplus must reach a specific deficit without continually spilling across the intervening ground.

Before moving material

Map where material starts and where it needs to finish.

Receiving operation and checks

Blend the placed material into the receiving surface and check the final fall. Compare completed, verified surface per hour rather than just travel speed.

A scraper is not always preferable: short local maintenance can favour a land plane or blade.

Landscape Rakes

A landscape rake separates or moves surface debris and can assist preparation of a growing surface. It does not provide the same excavation and carrying function as a scraper.

Before moving material

Identify debris type and the layer being prepared.

Receiving operation and checks

Complete growing-medium preparation or planting. Check for remaining debris and unwanted disturbance of the underlying layer.

Do not confuse a clean appearance with a verified grade or soil specification.

Cut, Collect, Carry, Place & Grade

Cutting, collecting, carrying, placing and grading are different tasks. A machine that drags material forward does not necessarily carry a contained load to a distant low area. Break the earthworks into these actions so the route, implement and checking method match the actual work.

Before moving material

Survey high areas, receiving areas and obstacles before loading.

Receiving operation and checks

Recheck levels before another layer or another operation covers the work. Track the destination of material as well as the appearance of the cut.

Material suitability, safe towing and compaction requirements remain separate decisions.

Record the job inputs

Use this checklist to turn the scenario into a specific brief. Retain the design revision and agree who accepts each completed layer.

Checklist ticks apply only while this page is open. Include the completed brief in your project records.
